Practical guidance for determining, assessing and managing inspection requirements for non-electrical equipment in hazardous areas.
The CompEx Non-Electrical Inspection Schedule (CCL7003 Rev 7) has been developed in collaboration with industry stakeholders, operators, inspection specialists and our Approved Training Provider (ATP) network to provide a practical and structured approach to the inspection and assessment of non-electrical equipment operating within explosive atmospheres.
As the use of non-electrical Ex equipment continues to increase across sectors including oil and gas, chemicals, utilities, manufacturing and process industries, there is a growing need for practical guidance that supports not only inspection activities, but also inspection planning, competency and ongoing asset integrity.
Revision 7 represents a significant enhancement to the previous document and expands the scope beyond inspection schedules alone by introducing a more structured and risk-based approach to inspection management.
What’s New in Revision 7?
New guidance for legacy equipment
Many hazardous area installations contain equipment with incomplete documentation, missing certification records or equipment installed prior to modern explosion protection legislation. Revision 7 introduces guidance to help organisations assess and manage these installations using engineering judgement and risk-based principles.
Inspection Applicability and Scope Determination Process
A new structured decision-making process has been introduced to support inspectors and duty holders in determining:
- Whether equipment falls within inspection scope
- Documentation requirements
- Inspection grade selection
- Applicable inspection activities
- Assumptions and limitations requiring recording
Expanded competency and inspection management guidance
Revision 7 introduces enhanced guidance relating to competent personnel, inspection responsibilities and the role of the Technical Person with Executive Function (TPEF) in establishing and managing effective inspection regimes.
Enhanced inspection preparation
Inspection preparation requirements have been expanded and elevated into a dedicated section to support better planning, improved consistency and more effective application of inspection activities.
Improved technical guidance and supporting notes
Inspection schedules and associated guidance have been refined with additional explanatory notes, editorial improvements and closer alignment with international good practice.
