Now, CompEx is looking for freelance subject matter experts who share its passion for promoting safe working environments – could this be you?

The main role of a CompEx subject matter expert is to help maintain and develop a competency scheme that is valid and responsive to the evolving needs of industry. This will involve working closely with the CompEx team to develop effective methodologies and content aimed at improving worker competence and stakeholder confidence in the Scheme.

CompEx is actively seeking freelance subject matter experts to undertake the following roles:

  • Content developer – responsible for creating and amending qualification content
  • Question writer – responsible for creating assessment content
  • Reviewer – responsible for critiquing qualification and assessment content

Discussing the subject matter expert freelance roles, Huw Bement, Director at CompEx, said: “As a subject matter expert, the global reputation and effectiveness of the CompEx scheme really will be in your hands. You will provide up-to-date sector specific expertise for the competency scheme to ensure the qualifications are fit for purpose, being sufficient and relevant for the requirements of the job role which it relates. You will use your subject knowledge and industry experience to create engaging qualification and assessment content that is valid, reliable, and accessible for all learners.”

Along with a good basic education, candidates for the freelance roles will need to demonstrate evidence of relevant qualifications and vocational experience, of at least five years, in explosive atmospheres. A thorough working knowledge of the international standards series IEC 60079 and ISO 80079 will be essential for success. A thorough knowledge of other relevant standards and codes of practice as applicable are also deemed desirable.

The candidate will also be attentive to detail and have strong writing skills, as well as proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. Ability to work under pressure and to meet targets with tight deadlines, along with first-class organisational skills will be key to succeeding in the role of a subject matter expert.
