About the course
An introduction to Hydrogen provides an overview of Hydrogen, how it can be used, safety considerations, and protection measures required for usage. The course also makes comparisons between Hydrogen and conventional fossil fuels which have traditionally been used.
Hydrogen is a gas which is extremely volatile, with properties that need to be considered in other situations. Hydrogen usage must be managed using the IEC 60079 suite of standards when electrical equipment is used where flammable atmospheres may be present.
Explosion consequences are usually significant, and sometimes catastrophic in terms of personal injury, fatalities, equipment and facility damage, or financial impact. An introduction to Hydrogen outlines important factors to consider when working with Hydrogen.
Several white papers and standards have been released specifically relating to Hydrogen due to the rise in Hydrogen storage and development of wind farms and large-scale solar power. The report, ISO/TR 15916, covers basic considerations for the safety of Hydrogen systems, which this course is based on. Other sources are also used to give a detailed explanation of precautionary measures.
