Centre Spotlight – C&P Training Services Ltd

For the next in our series of centre spotlights, we hear from Dewi Evans, Senior Hazardous Area Inspector and Senior CompEx Trainer at C&P Training Services Ltd, an approved certified training provider highly experienced in delivering CompEx, Electrical and Industrial Training. Located in Gorseinon, Swansea, the centre was set up in February 2018 to help improve the knowledge and practical skills set of employees and industrial personnel required to install or maintain electrical installations in potentially explosive atmospheres. The centre also looks to provide a pathway for companies to ensure that they continue to employ a competent, skilled and sustainable electrical workforce.

What are your most common types of customer/business?

At C&P Training Services Ltd, our main customers are companies who have industrial-based electricians who want their employees to achieve the CompEx qualifications that will enable them to work competently in hazardous areas.

What are your most popular courses? Why do you think that these are popular?

Our most popular course would be the Ex01 – Ex04 gas and vapours module. This is often favoured by our customers as it’s an industry-recognised qualification that is required by both employers and customers to enable staff to work in hazardous areas. We have recently launched the Ex05 – Ex06 Combustible Dust Course and looking to the future, we would like to introduce more of our customers to the Ex09 – Ex10 water utilities course.

Do you have any other plans for over the next year?

Ideally, over the next year we will be looking to combine the training centre and main office, as they are currently spread over two different locations.

Additionally, we would like to look at adding even more courses to our current options, widening our offering for customers and providing more incentive to stay in the area and train with us for longer on different courses.

What do you think sets CompEx apart from other certification bodies?

I believe that CompEx stands out due to the fact that it has now achieved global recognition as the benchmark qualification for working in potentially explosive atmospheres, both by all major employers and by the HSE. CompEx qualifications have the power to change the lives and career prospects of those working within hazardous environments – read our student -Jo’s story to find out how she went from working as a domestic electrician, to a CompEx electrical rope assessor on the oil rigs in the North Sea.
